This year’s winner is at the forefront of taking pharmacy into the future through expanding the scope of practice. He, along with his three partners are owners of six Medicine Shoppe Pharmacies in British Columbia. He has led the charge in a pilot program with Vancouver Coastal Health on becoming the first Pharmacy in Canada to offer HIV Point of Care screenings. He is now piloting the HIV screenings in 2 of his pharmacies and has also worked with Vancouver Island Health to extend the pilot along with funding to two additional Medicine Shoppe’s on Vancouver Island. In addition he has implemented the new Health Tab technology (First Pharmacy in Canada to do Lab Accurate test results in 15 minutes with a patient assisted finger prick). He has partnered with the Kidney Foundation of Canada and obtained funding from Pharmacare to Pilot a screening to identify early Kidney Disease. He is also involved in pilot program with UBC for Genome Sequencing and INR (International Normalized Ratio), which measures how fast the blood clots in patients on blood thinners. This program is funded by the College of Pharmacists of BC and UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, again a first in Canada, and will be collection site for sputum samples. He truly has a passion for moving the pharmacy profession forward.
