Two Vancouver pharmacies to offer free, quick HIV test

VANCOUVER – Two Vancouver pharmacies will start offering free HIV tests with near-instant results, as part of a pilot project that is the first of its kind in Canada.

“Offering HIV testing at more locations like your local pharmacy helps normalize testing and reduces the stigma around it so that it’s more acceptable to people to get tested,” Dr. Reka Gustafson, medical health officer at Vancouver Coastal Health, said in a news release.

2 Vancouver pharmacies offer free HIV tests in a pilot project

For the first time in Canada, two Vancouver pharmacies will experiment with offering on-site HIV tests to their customers.

Pharmacists at two Vancouver Medicine Shoppe pharmacies, located at 2030 Kingsway Ave and 6180 Fraser St, will now be offering HIV tests while their customers are waiting for their prescriptions.
